Lavern B. Halverson

Lavern B. Halverson, 81, of Sioux Falls passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm on Thursday, February 11 at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
Lavern B. Halverson was born on October 30, 1928 near Presho, SD to Ben and Josephine (Lugland) Halverson. He grew up and attended school in the Presho area. On September 29, 1951 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Gossman in Luverne, MN and they lived most of their lives together in Brandon. He worked for 40+ years at John Morrell company retiring as a supervisor in 1990.
Lavern was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the VFW, and a past member of the Moose Lodge. He also served as a volunteer firefighter. He loved fishing, hunting,camping, and was always looking for bargains while shopping.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty of Sioux Falls; two sons,Dave (Cindy) of Greenfield, MN and Craig (Kay) of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Denise (Terry) Matzen of Sioux Falls,Sue (Bob) Shumaker; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren two sisters, Bernice Frasier of CA and Eleanor Small of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Delvin, Marvin, Alvin, and Norman, and a sister, Norma.
