Charlene Y. Snyder
September 13, 1935 - February 26, 2010

Charlene Y. Snyder, lifelong resident of Sioux Falls, SD, who dedicated her life to volunteerism, died February 26, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center. She was 74.

Charlene Y. Snyder was born September 13, 1934, in Sioux Falls, SD, to William and Virginia (Pierce) Callahan. She was raised in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington Senior High School.

During her life of homemaking and motherhood, Char had a life-long commitment to volunteering in Sioux Falls. Beginning when her son, Troy was a young boy, she volunteered for the Sioux Falls Head Start Program, and eventually received an award from that organization. Following her years there, she started volunteering her time to the care and assistance of seniors through the Senior Companion Program. Years later in 1999, she began her volunteer work with Avera McKennan Hospital. There, she worked in several areas of the hospital and for a period of time, assisted as clerk and worked with the Avera Womens Center. At Avera, she was commended for volunteering over 8,000 hours of her time. She is also the recipient of the Presidents Volunteer Service Award.

Char loved playing Bingo and for decades enjoyed spending time with her friends at Sertoma Bingo. In her free time, she also liked shopping. In younger years, Char also enjoyed bowling at Sports Bowl.

Char always looked forward to taking bus trips. Over the years she had taken trips throughout the US and Canada. Most recently, she traveled to Custer, SD for the Buffalo Roundup.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Troy Snyder, Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Bonnie Kiley, Sioux Falls, SD; aunt, Patricia Frerichs, Sioux Falls, SD; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 Tuesday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 13th and Main Avenue. Private interment will be held at Hills of Rest on Wednesday. Visitation will begin at 11:00am Tuesday.
