Bert Leroy Cauthon, son of Lyle and Angela (Snook) Cauthon, was born February 13, 1941, in Sioux Falls, SD. Bert grew up in Sioux Falls and attended schools here. On November 21, 1959, he entered the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably for four years and was honorably discharged on December 10, 1963. Following his service he moved back to Sioux Falls where he worked for Wright Tree service and Denny Reents Tree Service.

Bert then lived in Denver where he worked for Osborne Tree Service. On August 17, 1979 he married Dianna Elcock in Sioux Falls. The couple lived in Denver for a short time before moving back to Sioux Falls in 1984. Bert then started his own tree service company, Bert’s Tree Service, which he ran until he retired in 2004 here in Sioux Falls.

In his free time, Bert enjoyed fishing with his friends, playing Horseshoes and fixing washer machines and dryers. Above all he loved to spend time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by the many people who shared his life.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Dianna Cauthon, Sioux Falls; children, Bert “Buddy” Cauthon, Lyle Cauthon and Susan Cauthon, all of Plainview, NE, Billy Thomas, Theresia (Daniel) Tounjian, Tammy Thomas, Tanya (Clint) Wallenberg, all of Sioux Falls, and Russell Thomas, Renner, SD; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Myrna (Bill) Christensen, Brookings, SD, Sharon (Bob) Frisby, Prineville, OR, Judy (Bob) Wittrock and Kathy (Don) Hirsch, both of Sioux Falls.
