Alvin Robert Pesicka, son of Edward and Cleova (Branson) Pesicka, was born October 26, 1939, in Sioux Falls, SD. Alvin or “Zeke” as he was known, grew up in both Sioux Falls and St. Joseph, MO. At the age of 17, he entered into the United States Navy. Zeke was in the Navy for six years during which time he ran the clothing store while on duty and played the saxophone and boxed while off duty. He was honorably discharged.

Following his service in the Navy, he moved to Montrose, SD where he ran his own farm and worked in the sausage department for the John Morrell Company in Sioux Falls. On February 11, 1966 he married Marilyn Pollock in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple farmed near Montrose for 16 years before moving to Brandon, SD in 1978 so that Zeke and Marilyn could be closer to work. In 1991 he retired from John Morrell and they moved to Geddes, SD where he opened up Zeke’s Marina and Boat Dealership. He ran the boat shop until 1998. Al loved to take on a new challenge headon, ranging from business ventures to sports reporting. Al embodied the phrase make hay when the sun shines with his ambition, work ethic and determination. He took nothing for granted and it showed in his efforts. No task was left undone; time was never wasted. It was his philosophy in life that you go all in with everything you do.

In his free time he enjoyed playing the saxophone (something he was paid to do in high school), fishing, playing cards with family and friends, and coaching basketball and tee ball. Zeke was a selfless person who was always ready and willing to help a friend or family member in need. Zeke had an infectious personality and a natural ability to tell stories guaranteed to make anyone listening, smile out loud. Laughter followed him and ignited from within him; it was impossible not to enjoy his company and not be impacted somehow. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by all those who shared his vibrant life. His advice and words of wisdom will remain part of his legacy.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marilyn Pesicka, Geddes, SD; children, Vicki Cox, Sioux Falls, SD, Chad (Emelie) Pesicka, Sioux Falls, and Christie Pesicka(special friend Dev), Venice, CA; two grandchildren; brother, Glynn (Beth) Pesicka, Hugo, OK; sister, Janet (Don) Glasscock, St. Joseph, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Cleova (Branson) Pesicka; and a brother, Roger Pesicka.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Cleova Pesicka, and brother, Roger.

Alvin’s family requests that memorials be directed to the Dougherty Hospice House.
