Joseph E. Long, son of Charles and Emma (Johnson) Long was born October 5, 1914 at Larchwood, IA. Joe grew up and received his education in the Larchwood area. He was united in marriage with Lou M. Swanson on October 21, 1941 at Brandon, SD. After their marriage the couple farmed near Larchwood until retiring and moving into Sioux Falls in 1977. During WW II Joe served in the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in Burma and India. Lou preceded him in death on February 10, 2007.
Joe was a member of Prairie Hills Covenant Church in Sioux Falls. Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and a very easy going spirit. He was fun to be around and he loved entertaining family and friends. He was tied to the land and was an excellent gardener.
Survivors include a sister, Josephine Oltmanns, Lennox, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his beloved Lou, Joe was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ferdinand, Fromalt, Axel, John, Palmer, Carl and David; and four sisters, Amanda Long, Betty Hildring, Sylvia Maass and Rosella Long.
