Barbara Sheffield, Sioux Falls, SD, died July 25, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Village. She was 67.
Barbara Hansen was born on December 4, 1942 to Alvin and Bernice Hansen in Sioux Falls, SD. She graduated from Washington High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Dean Sheffield on September 14, 1962.
Barbara worked at Northwestern Bell in the traffic and engineering departments from 1960 until 1977. Barbara was active in many community affairs and church activities. She taught Sunday school at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, was a PTA president, and was involved with Girl Scouts. Barbara was involved in Mother’s clubs and Christian Women’s groups.
Barbara and Dean moved to Salt Lake City in 1984. Barbara is a past president of the PEO women’s group. Dean and Barbara were members of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City.
Barbara and Dean returned to Sioux Falls in 2002. Following her husband’s death that year, she became a resident of Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home where she was known as a positive Christian role model. Several employees became good friends and she loved visiting with them all. Barbara enjoyed painting, traveling, animals, and most of all she enjoyed her family.
Grateful for sharing her life are two children, Brian (Mary) Sheffield of Sioux Falls, SD, Dawn (Mike) Bixler of Warrenville, IL. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Brandon and Bradley Sheffield of Sioux Falls, SD, and Emily, Nick, and Andy Bixler of Warrenville, IL; and one great-grandchild.
The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm, Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Christ the Victor Chapel of First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, SD. Interment will be at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. The family will be present to greet friends at 6:00 pm, Wednesday with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm, Wednesday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 13th and Main Avenue.
