Francis was born to Albert and Jessie (Boterman) Buckmiller on August 24, 1921 in Parker, SD. He moved to Sioux Falls when he was three years old and attended school in Sioux Falls. Francis served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II in India and Titian Island in the south pacific. When he returned home he worked with his father in construction and then as an electrician for over 25 years.

Buck was a member of the Racing Association and owned his own car (number 10) for several years. He also played a part in the formation of Huset’s Speedway. Racing was one of his most enjoyable hobbies along with fishing and camping. Buck was also a lifetime member of the Sioux Falls VFW Post 628.

He married Eileen Merritt in 1942. She passed away on June 13, 1946. He then married Shirley Zarecky on March 10, 1949 in Pipestone, MN.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shirley Buckmiller, Sioux Falls; one daughter, Robin Roberts, Sioux Falls; six sons, Frederich Buckmiller, Peru, NE, Michael (Linda) Buckmiller, Kansas City, MO, Joseph (Theresa) Buckmiller, Denton, TX, John (Janet) Buckmiller, Canistota, SD, Jesse (Lynette) Buckmiller, Sioux Falls, SD and Guy (Carrie) Buckmiller, Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
