Charles L. Rice
March 26, 1973 - March 14, 2013

Charles Rice, 39, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Celebrate Community Church with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 18 at Messiah New Hope Lutheran Church. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM on Monday at the church.

Charles Rice moved to Sioux Falls from East St Louis, IL, where he had his first son Charles “Mac” Rice Jr.; following the death of his parents he came to live with his aunt, Ms. Annie Lee Vaughn. After attending Lincoln High School, where he met and started dating, Kristin Loudermilk, they were blessed with their three beautiful children; Raheem Drew Rice, Ceveja Reign Rice and Remi-Mae Rice all of whom he loves very much.

He later met his wife Krista through mutual friends following her return home from living in Phoenix AZ. Always friends first, they were two peas in a pod; sharing the same off beat sense of humor. Several years of friendship led them to realize their “in for a penny, in for a pound” friendship had developed into a lifelong love. They made that love official with their marriage in May of 2012, followed by the birth of their son Carver Vaughn Rice. The love they shared was like no other; they were true soul mates. Charles and Krista grew together over the years to build a deep, loving and unconditional bond.

Charles was loved by everyone he met; charming them with his charisma, quick wit, intellect and wonderful sense of humor. He was always quick to smile with an infectious laugh that made everyone feel welcome and at ease, blessing him with countless friends who saw him as nothing less than family.

Charles was taken from all our lives way too soon and will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. He will forever be remembered as a loving, and devoted husband, father and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Krista Rice, Sioux Falls; children, Charles “Mac” Rice, Jr., East St. Louis, IL, Raheem “Drew” Rice, Ceveja Rice, RemiMae Rice and Carver Rice, all of Sioux Falls; grandson, Oakley Rice, Sioux Falls; and sister, Veronica Rice, Sioux Falls. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Rice; aunt, Annie Lee Vaughn; and brother, Victor Rice.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for his children’s education. A memorial fund has been established at any Wells Fargo Bank location, using account number 8941683743.
