Eloa A. Bruns
September 12, 1944 - June 22, 2017

Eloa Arlene Bruns, 72, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on June 22, 2017 in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the wife of James William Bruns. They shared 48 wonderful years of marriage together.

Eloa was born in Minot, ND to Rev. W. LeRoy and Avis Elster on September 12, 1944. Growing up, she also lived in Bottineau, ND, Lemon Grove, CA, Kalispell, MT, Milbank, SD and finally Sioux Falls, SD where she made her permanent home. She graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. She married James W. Bruns on February 22, 1969 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. She worked many years in the dental industry as an Office Manager for dentists Dr. Barry Nelson DDS, Dr. Mike Kotas DDS, and most recently, for most of her career, for Dr. Michael Houk DDS at Willow Creek Dental Office which she retired from a few years ago. Currently, she was very actively involved with Catfish Bay Waterski Park in Sioux Falls, SD coordinating all the volunteers for the weekly shows, being a “dock mom” to all, and just doing anything she could to help. She was also very involved in her grandchildren’s academic and sports activities. She will be remembered for her love for her family and friends, her unselfish giving nature, her strong will and hard work ethic, her fun-loving spirit, her positive attitude, for always being there when you needed her, her gentleness and her warm smile. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel loved and welcomed. She will be deeply missed by the many hearts she touched over the years. Eloa truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with her friends and family, snacking, taking care of everyone and spending time with her grandchildren.

Eloa is survived by her husband James W. Bruns, her son James L. Bruns (Michelle), her daughter Jennifer Skyberg, her sister Marlene (Kim) Gustafson, her sister Carol McCleary, her mother Avis Elster, and her grandchildren Johnny W. Skyberg, James J. Bruns, and Amara K. Bruns, along with her sister-in-law’s, her brother-in-law’s, her nieces, nephews, cousins and her many many friends. Eloa is preceded in death by her father, Rev. W. LeRoy Elster and her niece, Carissa McCleary.

Memorials can be directed to the Catfish Bay Water Ski Team.
