Daniel E. Nelson
February 3, 1932 - August 5, 2017

Daniel Edwin Nelson, 85, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Saturday, August 5, 2017, at his home in Sioux Falls.

Daniel Edwin Nelson, son of Henry and Edna (Canfield) Morearity was born February 3, 1932, in St. Paul, Minnesota. At age 5 he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Ray and Laura (Canfield) Nelson. He attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls, and graduated from high school in North Branch, Minnesota. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1954. Following his time in the Army, Daniel met Phyllis Muir while she was waitressing at the Stockyards Café in Sioux Falls. They were married on September 30, 1955 and were blessed with 61 years of marriage. To this union three boys were born: Roger, Wallace, and Mike. Daniel worked as a freight trucker for several companies in Sioux Falls including: Murphy Freight, Barber Transport, and Hyman Freight. He retired in February of 1992.

In earlier years Daniel had many hobbies including fishing, hunting, and golfing. They loved to travel and spent time camping. For the last 18 years Daniel and Phyllis were able to spend their winters in Yuma, Arizona. Daniel cherished his wife and always worked to keep things around her beautiful. From the inside of the house where he set up spaces for her to have angel and Betty Boop figurines, to outdoors where he placed bird feeders and flower gardens in places she could always see from her chair.

Survivors include his sons, Roger (Pamela) Nelson of Sioux Falls, Wallace (Susan) Nelson of Colorado, and Mike Nelson of Sioux Falls; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and brother, Jerome and his wife Jeannette of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his birth and adopted parents; and his wife, Phyllis in February of 2017.
