Marie J. Harris
April 13, 1925 - August 17, 2017

Marie Harris passed away on 8/17/17 at her daughters home (Judith Harris-Thompson) in Conyers, Georgia.

Marie Jester Harris was born on April 13, 1925, in Locust Grove, Georgia and passed away on August 17, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Gilmore Jester Sr. and Mellene Varner. Marie accepted Christ as a child joining Shiloh Baptist Church, McDonough, Georgia. Throughout her life she remained resolute in her belief and faith.

Marie was united in marriage to William Harris in January 1947 in McDonough, Georgia and then moved to Sioux Falls. Marie and William resided in Sioux Falls for over 60 years. In Sioux Falls they became members of Pilgrim Baptist Church which subsequently became Friendship Baptist Church. Marie and William became parents to five children.

Marie was the consummate housewife balancing, coordinating and raising her children in Sunday School and ensuring they participated in Scouts, gardening, swimming and sewing lessons which developed life skills her children continue to utilize in their lives. Marie wanted her children to know their family/heritage and traveled on the train in Sioux Falls to Georgia children in tow during the summer months. Marie thoroughly enjoyed baking and making food gifts of her chocolate cake, sweet potato pie and carrot pineapple bread which were simply delectable.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son William (Bill) Harris Sioux Falls and daughters Gwendolyn Harris Armstrong, Neptune New Jersey, Pamela Harris, Lithonia, Georgia, Judith Harris Thompson, Conyers, Georgia and Janice Harris, Conyers, Georgia, 4 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, her sister Mrs. Fannie Dumas, sister-in-law Mrs. Emma Armstrong nieces and nephews. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, 2 Sisters Mrs., Helen Cloud and Mrs. Marion Jester Gordon (fraternal twin to Marie) 3 brothers Ernest, Gilmore Jr. and Norman Jester, and beloved husband William Harris.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to either Emmanuel Baptist Church or the Alzheimers Association.
