Dona May Ristesund
April 27, 1926 - August 27, 2017

Dona May Ristesund, a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on August 27, 2017. The Silver cord has broken and I (by faith) have joyfully entered into the palace of the King! And I shall see Him face to face, and tell the story saved by grace!

Dona May Grace Masker was born April 27, 1926, in Sioux Falls. She was lovingly adopted by Harley and Cora (West) Masker, after Cora was the attending nurse at her birth. Her schooling included Lowell Elementary, Washington High, and a graduate of The Christian Workers Institute, all in Sioux Falls.

On June 6, 1952, she married E. Gillmen Ristesund in Sioux Falls. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for over 57 years with their family. Before raising their children, Dona worked as a cashier and hostess at Fantle Bros. Inc. Dona and Gill owned and operated Gills Driftwood restaurant in Sioux Falls for many years. Lifelong friends were made from the business, both of employees and customers. Later, she was employed in sales at The Fountain Of Truth Book & Music Store in the Western Mall for many years. She often said that, next to home, she preferred being in the environment and work at the Book Store. Dona enjoyed traveling with Gill, including several trips to Israel, and especially annual trips to the Black Hills with their family. Titusville, Florida, and St. Simons Island, Georgia, were favorite destinations for many winters.

Dona was a charter member of FaithTemple Church. She was the first church treasurer for over 22 years and was active in the church progress and activities.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Gill (July 2009), a cherished 4-day old first-born child Randy Lee (April 1953), and a beloved daughter Merri Lynn Ristesund Steele (January 2003). Also devoted parents, Harley and Cora Masker; siblings, sister Roseann Hanson and brother Derald Masker, all awaiting that glad resurrection morning!

Dona is survived by son Rob, daughters Terry Goben and Colleen (Kerry) Nilson, all of Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren: Rhonda (Jenn) Gonzalez, Cross Roads, Texas; Rachel (Michael) Wilcoxen, Providence Village, Texas; Nate and Jake Steele, Zach (Emilie) Goben, Erin (Drysen) Carsten, Isaac and Andrew Goben, Josh (Ashlee) Nilson, all of Sioux Falls; Jordan Nilson, Fargo, ND; Caleb, Terra and Seth NIlson, all of Sioux Falls; and 8 great-grandchildren: Jasmine and Destiny Steele, Savannah Harrison and Xavier Hall, Vincent and Guenivere Nilson, Olivia Carsten and Maisie Goben.
