Joyce A. Hippen
February 3, 1934 - August 18, 2017





Joyce A. Hippen, 83, of Sioux Falls, SD died Friday, August 18, 2017 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Joyce Arleen Forseth, daughter of Justin and Lena (Jensen) Forseth, was born February 3, 1934 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up there and graduated from Washington High School. During high school, she worked in the cafeteria at Sioux Valley Hospital. Following graduation, Joyce worked at National Bank of South Dakota.

Joyce married Preston Hippen on April 24, 1954. The couple was blessed with four children. Joyce worked for her father at Forseth’s Service, a gas station and small grocery store, for several years. Later, she kept busy taking care of her grandchildren and other neighborhood children. Joyce lived in her own apartment with her son, Gary, before moving to Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls one month ago under Compassionate Care Hospice.

Joyce was an active member of East Side Lutheran Church. She liked bowling. Joyce enjoyed watching her sons and grandchildren play softball. She loved watching the Minnesota Twins. Joyce had a wonderful card ministry and sent many, many cards and letters to family and friends through the years.

Grateful for having shared her life are four children, Rick Hippen and his wife, Sandra, Maricopa, AZ, Deb Hippen Schultz and her husband, Ron Schultz, Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy Maag and her husband, Greg, Watertown, SD, Gary Hippen, Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Jason Steere, Renton, WA, Matt Steere, Phoenix, AZ, Josh Maag and his wife, Nikki, Watertown, SD, Jennie McNamara and her husband, Andrew, Sioux Falls, SD, Jordan Maag and his wife, Elle, Brandon, SD; six great-grandchildren, Avery and Riley Steere, Bothell, WA, Mason, Jeron and Kyson Maag, Watertown, SD, Lincoln McNamara, Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Eleanor Koepp, Webster, SD; and her lap buddy, Halen the cat.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wesley Forseth.
