Elizabeth "Betty" Moe
August 20, 1942 - December 20, 2017

Betty Moe, 75, formerly of Mitchell, SD, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017, surrounded by family.

Elizabeth Louise “Betty Lou” Smith, daughter of Lawrence and Irene (Harding) Smith was born August 20, 1942 in Emery, SD. She grew up on the family farm and learned the value of a hard day’s work at a young age. She was a cheerleader at Hanson High School in Alexandria, and graduated with the class of 1960. She was united in marriage to Jimmie Moe on September 30, 1961, in Sioux Falls, SD. Six children were born to this union: Leanne, Michelle, Steve, Tom, Michael, and Brian.

Betty was a hard worker and was a woman ahead of her time. Her days growing up on the family farm taught her how to handle many tasks. She was even able to MacGyver an engine after checking out a book from the library. She is a past member of The Cathedral of St. Joseph in Sioux Falls and Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD. She had a special place in her heart for her dog, Gizzy and cat, Dumpy.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Leanne Williams of Brandon, SD and Michelle (Dwain) Robinson of Brandon; sons, Steve (Janelle) Moe of Sioux Falls, Tom (Michelle) Moe of Sioux Falls, Michael (Trish) Moe of Brandon, and Brian (Susan) Moe of Brandon; 12 grandchildren; brother, William “Bill” (Carol) Smith of Mitchell, SD; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Smith of Mitchell, and Stella Moe of Lodi, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George Smith; and sister, Anna Mae (Rodney) Christensen.
