Esther A. Tordsen
December 22, 1920 - July 29, 2009

Esther A. Tordsen, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls.

Esther Bienhoff was born on December 22, 1920 in Franklin County, Nebraska, the daughter of Johann “John” and Anna (Stuhmer) Bienhoff. She attended country school thru the 8th grade and graduated from Franklin High School in 1938. After graduating from Hastings Business College in Hastings, NE in 1940, she then moved to Worthington, MN and worked at a produce plant and implement dealer.

Esther was united in marriage to Emil Tordsen on September 12, 1941 in Worthington, after which she was a housewife for 15 years, living and farming in various areas around Worthington. In 1952, the couple moved to Sioux Falls. In 1956, she worked at Dow Bakery in the evenings, and cared for children during the day. She then worked for Sioux Valley Hospital for three years before beginning her career with VanDeMark Clinic. She retired as Office Manager in 2000, after 34 years.

Esther cherished time spent with her family and enjoyed attending activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her free time, she liked crocheting and spending time scrapbooking. Throughout the years, she enjoyed photography; recording the life of her family and friends. Esther loved being active and involved in life. She will be long remembered for her loving and caring spirit.

Esther was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, was active in LWML, Stephen Ministry, Christ Care, and enjoyed being involved in Bible Studies.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Duane Tordsen, Steve (Evelyn) Tordsen, Darrell (Patricia)Tordsen; daughter, Donna McConnell (Denny), daughters-in-law, Lyla Tordsen-Schuetzle, Lois Tordsen; grandchildren, Brian (Angela) Tordsen, Troy Tordsen, Jared (Tonya) Tordsen, Lynn (Mike) Larsen, Anne Horst, Beth DuFresne, Jody Sunderland, Brett (Jenny ) McConnell, Joshua Tordsen, Samantha Fowler, Ross Tordsen; 23 great-grandchildren, her brother, Donald (Mary Jane) Bienhoff, and sisters-in-law, Betty Bienhoff, Doris Wiese and Eldora Tordsen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; son, John, two brothers, Orville and Vernon; and a sister, Dora.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, with interment at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 2:00 Sunday, with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue.
