John R. Sittig, Sr., 92, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010 at Terrace Manor in Dell Rapids.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Burial will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

John was born March 3, 1917 in Brandon, SD to parents John Phillip and Minnie (Peters) Sittig. He was raised in the Brandon area where he attended country school. John married Frances “Spiff” Nelson June 10, 1939 in Beresford. The couple lived in Sioux Falls where he was employed at John Morrell and Company until 1947. They farmed near Baltic until 1974 when they moved to Trent and operated the Villa Rec until 1988. Spiff passed away February 1, 1988. He was a lifetime member of the Trent American Legion.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, John (Connie) Sittig, Jr., Brandon; SD; Robin Sittig, Sioux Falls, SD; Joy (Bud) Nielsen-Alberts, Trent, SD; Jay (Sandi) Sittig, Dell Rapids; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Sittig, Sioux Falls, SD and Elmer Sittig, Graceville, MN; sister, Evelyn Erickson, Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Frances “Spiff” in 1988; parents; five brothers and seven sisters.
