Bette G. Burdine

Bette Burdine went to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 31, 2010, passing away at Bethany Lutheran Home from complications of Alzheimers disease.
Bette Gwendolyn Burdine was born October 13, 1926 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota to August and Ferne Nordstrom. She attended Bancroft Elementary and graduated from Washington High School. The Nordstroms were in the restaurant/food business and Bette and her siblings worked at Guss Place, the YMCA cafeteria, and Camp Teepeetonka. While working at the Y she met Wallace Burdine and they were united in marriage on February 23, 1946 at Augustana Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Sioux Falls. Bette worked as a Ward Secretary on Pediatrics at Sioux Valley Hospital for 31 years. In 1988, she received the Sioux Valley Hospital Employee of the Year Award. Pediatric employees cherished Bettes special talent knitting baby booties for their newborns. She was active in Ladies Aid, Friendship Club, a member of the church choir, and was a volunteer for the Bethany Lutheran Home Auxiliary.
Those left to cherish her memory are her six children, Pamela Melton and husband, Clay, Robert Burdine and wife, Candy, Dana Painter and special friend, Jeff Ward, David Burdine and wife, Deb, all of Sioux Falls, SD; Deborah Happ and husband, Bob, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Cynthia Ibis and husband, Charles, Mitchell, SD; eight grandchildren, Brittany Thue Horner, Luke and Sara Ibis, Wendy Happ, Kristin Harkema, Nathan Burdine, Heidi Burdine, and Kalee Painter; and 7 great grandchildren, Kiara and Kerigan Harkema, Annabelle and Violet Horner, Jaidon Painter, Cain and Talon Burdine-Haggar.
Bette was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and one brother.
Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Augustana Lutheran Church with burial in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home with the family present 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Her online obituary and register book can be viewed at wwwheritagesfsd.com.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Bethany Lutheran Home for the special care, love and attention devoted to our mom during her 4 ½ year residency in the Serenity Gardens Wing of the nursing home.
